CUENCA

CUENCA

We had the greatest weekend.  Greg and I took a trip to Cuenca and Albarracin, which I will post separately. Spain has so many wonderful old cities that really give us a feel of life in ancient times.  Most of life in these old days were centered around the church.  Every little burg, no matter how small, has an impressive church in the center of it.  Cuenca's greatest draw is also their beautiful Cathedral.

I have never seen a chimney in Spain that wasn't interesting.
Cuenca is built against a hill, and goes straight up.
The old city is built high above a gorge, and the most popular
entrance is a walking bridge across the gorge.

This church is built on the opposite side of the gorge from the old city.

These are the famed "hanging houses" of Cuenca.

The bridge across the gorge.

These dramatic cliffs are formed all over Spain.

The most famous hanging house in Cuenca.

The Cathedral in Cuenca.

The main plaza.
The Cathedral.

He is such a nice guy, always helping people out.

I life-sized sculpture of the Last Supper in the Cathedral.

The Ceiling.

Another incredible ceiling.

The baptistry.

Laundry day.

We have since made another trip to Cuenca.
It is a fascinating old city.  It is on our top site list.
