Avila

Are there any unwalled cities in Spain? Well, not many.  One afternoon we took a short trip to the walled city of Avila.  We had only a few hours, so this was just a quick look at the place.  Avila had been calling our names since we first passed it on a train to Salamanca.  We are told that Avila is the place to come at Christmas time.  They have live nativities during the month of December.  The wall itself is the real draw here.  It is so complete and in fantastic condition.

This is a mail box.

The lion seems to be the mascot of Avila.

It is allowed to walk on the walls. We didn't have time, but I'd like to next time.
