BREAK, part 4, CADIZ

CADIZ

Cadiz is the oldest continuously inhabited city in Spain, and one of the oldest in western Europe.  It is the principle port of the Spanish Navy.  It is located on the southwestern most corner on the peninsula, and is where the Spanish returned from the New World with their treasures.

Our drive to Cadiz was interesting.  We saw a couple of towns, and villages from the motorway, and made a couple of stops along the way.

Couldn't get a good picture of this one, but wondered what it meant.

We drove along the coast all the way down.

Arriving in Cadiz.

We went to the cathedral first.

It must have really been something special in its hay day, but today it is seriously in need of extensive repairs.  There is a net covering the whole ceiling to catch the debris.  Still, it was beautiful and had many beautiful works of art.

Now I would like to know the story behind this guy.

This is the crypt.

Geezer looking for his resting place.

Then we set out to explore the city a little.

Very good street performers.

There is such a variety of trees in one spot.

This is a dragon tree.  I'll tell more about them when I post about the Canaries.

Spain's Constitution was written in Cadiz in 1812.
