Catching Up (Segobriga, Belmonte, Alarcon, and Alcala del Jucar

Catching Up

Segobriga, Belmonte, Alarcon, and Alcala del Jucar

I am hopelessly behind on my pictures.  I have to keep on top of them constantly or end up with a huge backlog.  Even when I'm not blogging, I'm still taking pictures.  Awhile back Greg and I took another trip following Randy Deschamps recommendations.  On the way to our first stop, we passed a sign saying "Segobriga, Roman City."  We decided to take a look.  There are so many Roman ruins in Spain.  We have always found them very interesting.  It was a very hot day, and a long walk out to the ruins.  So we only walked through the highlights.

There was a large Roman cemetery on the way to city.
The Roman Theater
The city wall.
The Arena

The Theater
The Man!
The Museum.
Another castle seen from the highway.
Even the driest part of Spain is beautiful.
Belmonte city wall.
Belmonte Castle.  We waited as a bride and groom got some
great shots in front of the castle.
My groom in front of the castle.
Sadly, we were late getting there, and they were just closing for mediodia.
We will have to come back another time to see the inside.  The outside was a  good 10!

We were surprised that the town had windmills
 we had not yet discovered.
Another great gate in their city wall.

You can't have a castle without a crane.

Our next stop, Alarcon.
This castle and town has a natural moat.
This must have been something in its day, as the
wall seemed to wind around for miles.

The sight was amazing.

Inside the walls.

Old old bridge.
Well inside the castle.
As it turns out, the castle had been made into a Parador, one of the government owned hotels found throughout the country.  They take great historical sites, restore them, and then open them up as premium hotels.

Plaza Mayor

Alcala del Jucar
This was a very popular vacation spot for many Spanish families.
This is a very cool bridge leading from on side of the city to the other.
This city is built straight up.

There were amazing gardens everywhere.
From our hotel window.

The sight as we drive into the canyon.

Of course they have a bullring.
Of course they have a castle.

Don Quijote and Sancho
The five sided tower.

We have seen a lot of interesting roundabouts in Spain,
but can't always capture the image.  This one was unique.

This one is found in Villavaliente.

Another interesting roundabout in Albacete.

And, of course, The Bullring.

It was a whirlwind trip in a very hot weather, but we had a great time.  Thanks Randy!
