El Escorial Belen
I promise this is the last of the Belenes. It is past the season, but I just have to post this last one. We had heard so much about the Belen in El Escorial, and almost didn't have the time to get there. Luckily, we made it. I have never seen anything like this before, and it was an absolute delight. The Belen runs all through the town with life sized paper mache figures as though they were towns people in Bethlehem. We got there on New Years Day, which was the last day possible for us to go, and the town was full of onlookers. Somehow, it made it more fun to see the people walking among the figures, and the excitement from the children was precious.
The size of this chicken is hilarious. It looks like our Thanksgiving turkey. |
They got a little graphic here with a cow giving birth. I didn't get a good picture of her blood shot eyes. |
The first of the Wise Men. |
It was such a great day out. It is hard to explain how impressive it is to see this "city" within a city. El Escorial is such a great old place that this Belen running through the town doesn't seem out of place at all. I wish everyone could see this.
