Segovia

Segovia is yet another walled city just outside of Madrid.  Greg and I took the bus there for an afternoon outing awhile back.  This was when my camera was not working well, but not quite dead.  I'm really disappointed that we visited so many incredible places with my camera not feeling well.  I took so many great pictures that turned out blurry or defective.  At any rate, Segovia was fantastic.  The main attractions are a cathedral, a castle, and a Roman aqueduct.  There was a lot to see in a short afternoon, and will require another visit, but we made the most of the time we had.

So this is another very very old site.  The Romans lived here and  a minted Roman copper coin that has "Segovia" written on it, was found.  It has been dated around 17 BC.
We see this tower from the bus or train each time we leave Madrid.

This is also seen from the bus.  It is a major landmark.  It is called The Valley of the Fallen.

I'm not sure who this guy is, but suckling pig is a major draw to Segovia.

We began our trek up the hill to reach the old walled part  of the city.

Pretty little town.

More narrow winding streets.

The cathedral

Cute and interesting shops.

The Wall

The Alcazar
This castle has an amazing vantage point.

The dry moat.

View from the castle.

He's been missing his old friend.

Castle inner courtyard.

Another inner courtyard.

Quite the Moat!

The main town square.

G.W. finds friends where ever he goes.

More of the town square.

The Cathedral

This is supposed to be the best of dozens of restaurants that serve suckling pig.

The Roman aqueduct in the background.

Another old church.

The aqueduct is amazing.  It is huge and in fantastic  condition.

It is thought to have been built around 117 AD

The castle confessional.

We went to that famous restaurant and were not impressed.  For 25 euros (about $32) we got half a head and part of a little baby leg.  We each got a couple of bites and that was it.  All the pictures show a whole piglet.  We had to go get something to eat afterwards.
