La Seu D'urgel

Our two week break in June.
Part One.

Our two week break began with a visit from Sherod and his family.  We had three great days.  Once we dropped them off at the airport we packed our bags and headed North. We drove as far as Zaragoza, where we spent the night.  The next day we decided to take the scenic route to La Seu D'urgel and drive through some cute villages that Randy Deschamps had recommended. We were in the southern Pyrenees. We saw a lot of spectacularly beautiful country, and charming villages.  Unfortuantely, we saw it all in the pouring rain. Therefore, I didn't get any pictures.  When it got dark, that's when it really got scary.  We had thunder, lightning, and even a huge hail storm.  We were terrified.  We finally had to seek shelter for ourselves and the car, and wait it out.  Our last stop was a beautiful town named La Seu D'urgel,  on the boarder of Spain and Andorra, on the Spain side.

We stayed in a Parador, which is a government owned chain of hotels.  They are usually set up in historical locations, such as an old castle or monastery.  This was a very modern building built around some ruins, which made for very interesting decor.
In the morning we saw this view out our window.

This cathedral was a short walking distance from the hotel.

This is the same cathedral.  It is huge, and many
different styles of architecture over time.

Still the same cathedral.

Walking around town.

Mostly narrow streets where the buildings are built
over the top of a walkway, held up by columns.

A cute little lady, who saw me taking pictures, took me by the hand to see this stone face on one of the walls.  I sure wish I had better Spanish.  I would love to be able to communicate with these people. They are so friendly, and seem to have so much to say.  At any rate I would like to know what this face is about.

Public watering holes are in all the cities of Spain.

There were other churches in town.

Back inside the Cathedral.  The cloister, of course.

There was a museum set up on the Cathedral grounds.  This was a very impressive trunk.
There were tons of religious art on the walls.

Moving on ....
This was a seminary that was not open to the public.  It was
such a cool building, I would have loved to see inside.
One last view of The Cathedral.
Such beautiful countryside.

A village in the distance.
We decided to go explore.
It was a very cute village.
Views from the village.

                                                                 Watering hole
Farewell, cute town, and farewell Spain.
Hello Andorra! One of the smallest countries on earth.

Andorra La Velha, the capitol.
I post this picture, in case any of my loved ones go Andorra.  This is
where you can purchase the worst pizza for an unbelievably high price.
We were expecting nice weather.  We were disappointed.
Cold and rainy would sum it up. June.....
Our hotel,  goodnight.
